1. Leo History in the World
The Leo Club program, an initiative of Lions Clubs International, was established in 1957 to inspire and empower young individuals worldwide. The name “Leo” represents Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity—core values that define the program. Since its inception, Leos have focused on personal development through community service, fostering leadership skills, and building connections that transcend borders. Today, with thousands of clubs in over 140 countries, the Leo movement continues to unite youth from diverse backgrounds to create a positive global impact.
2. Leo History in Sri Lanka
The Leo movement in Sri Lanka began in 1969, with the establishment of the first Leo Club under the Lions Club of Moratuwa. Over the years, the movement has grown significantly, becoming one of the most vibrant youth networks in the country. Sri Lankan Leo Clubs actively engage in a variety of service projects, from environmental conservation and education to health initiatives and community development. The movement has played a pivotal role in nurturing responsible and dynamic young leaders who contribute to the progress of both their communities and the nation.
3. Our Motivation as a Parent Club
As a parent Lions Club, we are deeply committed to fostering a sustainable Leo movement. We strive to create an environment where youth are empowered with Leadership, Opportunities, and Experiences that prepare them for their future roles as active Leos and Lions.
By working alongside seasoned professionals from diverse fields, young Leos develop essential skills, broaden their perspectives, and gain the confidence to take on challenges. Our vision is to groom them as future leaders who will carry forward the legacy of our Lions Club, ensuring its continued success.
